Every AI copywriting tool defaults to the same interface: a chat box, one linear thread, each new draft overwriting the last. Copy Chain does the opposite — every generation is a node on a canvas, every tone and length variation branches off it, and nothing gets lost when you want to go back and try a different direction. Built first for TalkXO's own team, then opened up for other copywriters and marketers.
Copy Chain started as an internal tool — a way for TalkXO's own writers to stop losing good drafts to a chat window's undo history. A brief goes in as Step 1; every regeneration becomes a new node, tagged by tone and length; every option sits side by side instead of replacing the one before it. It's since been made available publicly. Below is the canvas itself, in both its light and dark states, with the thinking behind how it works.
Nothing here gets overwritten. Every regeneration is a new node branching off the one before it, so the third attempt sits next to the first instead of erasing it — a visual paper trail a chat window can't give you.
A full dark mode, not an inverted colour filter — for a tool meant to stay open through a long writing session, not a one-off prompt-and-leave.
A single starting brief branches into named tone variants — Punchy, Witty, Empathetic — each one a clearly labelled path on the canvas, not a dropdown you have to remember you changed.
Tone and length adjustments live directly on the card you're editing — Professional, Casual, Witty, Punchy, Empathetic; Shorter, Same, Longer — and generate straight into new branches, so refining a line never means leaving the canvas to find the setting.
